The Wrap

The Australian market finished the week virtually unchanged. Both the All Ordinaries and the ASX 200 closed up 0.1% to settle around 3,900 points. With the end of the financial year approaching, our market is likely to trade in a narrow range with a slight bias to the upside.

The major banks all finished the week with no major price movement. ANZ closed down 0.9% to close at $16.40, CBA was up 0.4% to $38.44, NAB up 0.9% to $22.30 and WBC closed down 0.5% to settle right on $20.00.

Mining giants BHP and RIO Tinto were also little changed, especially by their standards. BHP closed down 1.5% to $34.18 and RIO Tinto up 0.6% to $51.00 even. Newcrest Mining had a bigger dip for the week; it fell 3.4% to close at $30.03.

It appears that the optimistic news flow coming out of the US has had a positive impact on the local bourse. Consolidation is likely to continue for some time. Long term investors should continue to accumulate stock in their portfolios.
