The Australian market rose for a third straight week with both benchmark indices rising 0.4% and closing above the 4,700 point mark.
It was a mixed week with the banks continuing to rise whilst resources generally fell away although Woodside Petroleum had yet another solid week.
Banks
ANZ finished up 2.6% to $23.79
CBA finished up 4.5% to $51.30
Macquarie finished up 4.7% to $56.99
NAB finished up 1.9% to $30.42
WBC finished up 5.1% to $26.17
Resources
BHP finished down 3.0% to $37.55
RIO Tinto finished down 1.7% to $59.98
Woodside Petroleum finished up 3.5% to $52.40
So what to make of this stellar run? Aussie stocks have enjoyed a meteoric rise gaining some 51% in value over the past 6 months. While we continue to view the local market as a good long term investment, we are still of the opinion a pullback in the near term is not only overdue, but necessary.
