The Australian market enjoyed a strong rally last week breaking a two week losing streak. Both the All Ordinaries and the ASX 200 soared more than 5% to close at 3,993 and 4,001 respectively.
The market took pleasure in a broad based rally that saw banking stocks and resources finish firmly in the black.
ANZ rose 4.6% to close at $16.76, CBA rose 5.4% to $39.49, NAB up 6.3% to $23.79 and WBC up 5.8% to finish the week at 20.26.
Mining giants BHP Billiton and RIO Tinto both had a stellar week. The former rose 7.8% to $35.20 whilst the latter was up 8.5% to $52.48.
Whilst the economic data is certainly more favourable than it has been it months, there’s still a long way to go. With such a strong rally across the globe, markets are set for another period of consolidation.
It is becoming more evident that the lows experienced earlier this year will not be breached. Any pullbacks will continue to provide buying opportunities for the long term.
