The Australian market rose last week with the All Ordinaries posting a 1% gain and the ASX 200 1.3%. It’s been a rocky road the last 6 weeks with markets very much undecided as to which way to go. Unfortunately, in times of uncertainty markets generally trade lower.
Gains were enjoyed across the board with both the big banks and the miners posting solid gains.
Banks
ANZ finished up 1.8% to $23.04
CBA finished up 2.0% to $52.50
Macquarie finished up 1.1% to $44.72
NAB finished up 1.4% at $24.71
WBC finished up 2.9% to $23.43
Resources
BHP finished up 1.9% to $38.58
RIO Tinto finished up 2.2% to $69.10
Woodside Petroleum up 2.8% to $45.22
So what does the future hold; once the uncertainty is removed, it is likely our market will return to its recent high of around 5,000. In the short term however, volatility is likely to persist.
