The Australian market got smashed last week falling another 3% and barely managing to keep its head above the 4,400 mark. In extremely typical Oz market fashion, it followed the lead of Wall Street which was down, down, down!!! Unfortunately, this is the result when you lack clout!
Nothing was spared. The miners got hammered and the major banks slaughtered.
Banks
ANZ finished down 2.9% to $22.47
CBA finished down 4.9% to $50.00
Macquarie finished down 11.5% to $39.50
NAB finished down 5.3% at $23.80
WBC finished down 7.7% to $21.75
Resources
BHP finished down 0.8% to $38.80
RIO Tinto finished down 1.5% to $69.60
Woodside Petroleum down 3.2% to $43.28
With the market now down some 12% from its recent highs, several bargains are beginning to emerge. Buying the market at these levels will prove to be excellent value for the patient investor.
